Adriano Cangombe

(Angola, 1993)

On his artwork

The artist Adriano Cangombe does not limit himself to a single theme or a single creative technique. He uses different media to expand the reflexive and narrative potential of the materials and objects that nourish his works. His pieces can regenerate family memories, the collective past of the home, the memories of his father and mother. The plastic and poetic work incorporates the physical traces of his surroundings, the elements of everyday life, the referents of social space, the capacity to capture time. Through the varied formats with which he experiments, the creator recovers his own history, dialogues with the surrounding scenario, strips away the temporal and affective threads of his reality to bring to the surface invisible plots, recover experiential legacies, reimagine his micro-historical fabrics and share them through the sensoriality of the works.

This process of regeneration gives his work a counter-hegemonic character, through which decentred and excluded histories resurface from the invisible, as well as their fragilised and asymmetrical spaces. An operation that, in turn, makes life-worlds resist against the violence that disappears them, questions the axes of power in which those experiences are embedded and problematises the social context.
